When Heritage Family Credit Union set out to build their Operations Center they opted to rehabilitate and renovate the neighboring former Army Reserve Maintenance facility rather than disturb undeveloped land.
The project site, located on Allen Street, is within the state designated impaired watershed of Moon Brook which meant the project would be the first in Rutland to receive a Stormwater permit within the impaired watershed.
To comply with the new regulations Enman • Kesselring designed and permitted stormwater collection, treatment, and infiltration system to not only address stormwater runoff from the proposed expansion and redevelopment but also to reduce sediment loading from the parking lots at the existing Heritage Family Credit Union.
Creative engineering allowed the project to create an onsite sediment offset project thereby saving the project money because Heritage did not need to buy into an offsite sediment offset project.
Since the former warehouse building floor was approximately 4 feet above the elevations around the building, it meant that a lot of fill would need to be imported to provide at grade access between the building and the parking lot. By constructing the underground infiltrating stormwater system within the footprint of the parking lot fill, the system met the state standards for infiltration, and was hidden from view, offset the need for expensive imported granular fill for the parking lot.
