When Aldi Food Market decided to expand to Rutland they turned to Enman Kesselring for civil engineering and environmental permitting services. They selected the site of the former Smith Buick Automobile dealership, and since the property spans the Rutland City and Rutland Town lines, permitting in both municipalities plus Act 250 were needed.
Since the project was redeveloping a former automobile dealership site preparation work was required before redevelopment could move forward. Environmental assessment, site clean up, and geotechnical services were overseen by Terracon. Part of this included preparing the new building pad and allowing a weighted load to sit for 3 months to allow for even settlement under the footprint of the new building. Once construction was underway Fabian Earth Moving quickly transformed the site.
Being that the site is located in the impaired watershed of the Moon Brook, it needed to comply with the Impaired Stormwater Regulations. To meet these regulations we designed and permitted a stormwater collection, treatment and detention system that is completely underground.
The store opened to customers in the fall of 2014.
